I am based at the Demersal Fish Research Group at the Institute of Marine Research (Havforskningsinstituttet) in Bergen, Norway.
My work as a research scientist is split between governmental or international assessment of fish stocks, and research projects in fish ecology. In tandem with ICES expert groups, I am working on demersal fish stocks in the North Sea particularly Atlantic cod. This also involves coordinating and joining different scientific cruises, notably the International Bottom Trawl Survey (IBTS) in the North Sea.
During my PhD, I utilized a large archival collection of otoliths to develop a century-long chronology of Northeast Atlantic cod growth and maturity in light of increasing human activities and climate change. I am now involved in several research projects involving otoliths and other structures used for fish aging and development of biological proxies, and have a particular interest in the application of newer methods to extract information from otoliths (shape, growth, markings, chemistry).
